“The silver-haired head is a crown of glory, If it is found in the way of righteousness.” Proverbs 16:31 NKJV
In Proverbs 16:31, Solomon captures the essence of divine wisdom. In ancient Israel, gray hair was considered a sign of long life, which was seen as a blessing from God. The gray hair of old age and wisdom is a visible badge of honor, commanding respect and reverence from the younger generation. The “crown” is not automatically bestowed on all those with advanced age; it is specifically associated with those who have spent their lives walking in God’s ways. This crown has a condition of righteousness.
In this painting, her beautiful strands of gray hair are braided together forming a literal crown. She is poised and regal. Every wrinkle in her skin reflects years of life experience. In a culture that often strives for youth, this verse reminds us of the value and honor that come with age when we spend our life walking with God. Reflect on the actions in your life and what needs to change to receive your own crown of glory.
