Colorful Chaos, 2026
Acrylic on canvas | 20 × 20 in.
Inspired by Genesis 37:3
Artwork No. 1
Genesis 37:3 KJV “Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age: and he made him a coat of many colours.”
In Genesis 37:3, Jacob, also called Israel, had a deep love for his second wife Rachel. Because Joseph, Rachel’s firstborn son, was born to Israel later in life, he had a special affection for Joseph and made him a colorful coat. The coat’s distinction highlighted Israel’s open favoritism for Joseph causing resentment within his 10 older brothers. The jealousy and elevation of Joseph set the course for his brothers to sell him into slavery and the difficulty and pain he would have to endure. What his brothers didn’t know is what they meant for evil, God meant for good and would result in Joseph saving his family, Egypt and countries beyond.
The abstract painting shows many colorful strips of fabric in a tangled mess. Right now, the garment is in a state of chaos. The pieces aren’t laid out in order, it’s not assembled, it doesn’t make sense and the pieces may get pushed aside and forgotten. But one day, someone will gather the pieces, form them into a weave and the garment will take shape. Eventually, things will come together to fulfil a purpose. Reflect on the obstacles you are encountering, things that don’t seem to make sense now and how God may be using them for your development and His purpose.
